We had a great Startup Weekend event in Albuquerque back in June – and are looking forward to the next one in early 2014!


New Mexico Joins the Global Startup Battle with Three Startup Weekends (11/15-17)

This November, three sites in New Mexico will launch Startup Weekend events during Global Entrepreneurship Week and the “Global Startup Battle” from UP Global and Startup Weekend. Sites include Farmington with “Four Corners Startup Weekend,” Las Cruces Startup Weekend and the world’s first high school-focused Startup Weekend, “Teen Startup Weekend” in Albuquerque. These three events in different regions mark a substantial step forward in encouraging startup activity throughout the state and with a wider group of potential entrepreneurs. Her primary fields of focus include data-driven infographics, marketing and brand design, website management, and public relations. Prior to this role, she assisted small businesses in Northern New Mexico with various areas of business development and was a marketing consultant to Ocean Spray Cranberries.
Jacqueline holds double Bachelor degrees in Mathematics and Business Economics from the University of California, Riverside and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Strategic Marketing from the S. C. Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.
Over the years, she has explored entrepreneurship through various endeavors, including starting a private tutoring service for calculus and selling homemade, custom gourmet cupcakes through her online bakery, Ma Patisserie Toot Sweet ( Most recently, she won Startup Weekend Santa Fe with the team of SportXast, LLC, a mobile app startup that is building a smartphone app to bring broadcasting to amateur sports.
Outside of work, Jacqueline is an amateur competitive Latin Ballroom dancer and just placed as a USA Dance National Finalist this year. She currently lives in Los Alamos, New Mexico and enjoys running, cycling, hiking and camping in the New Mexican high desert.

Lisa Aldon

Before moving into education, Lisa Aldon had a 20 year career in engineering, serving first as Group Manager and later as Project Team Leader at design and manufacturing organizations including Solar Turbines – makers of industrial power generators.
She holds an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Arizona State University and a Masters in Leadership Studies from the University of San Diego, where her focus on organizational development took her to the Basque Region of Spain to study and report on the Mondragon Cooperatives.
Lisa returned to New Mexico to become the Director of High School at the Nizhoni School for Global Consciousness where she also taught advanced math, physics and leadership. She then became a trainer and an educator, working for the Institute for Intercultural Community Leadership and later for a non-profit devoted to building youth leadership skills. She has also been a keynote speaker and has held workshops in organizational development and leadership. Her belief that true leadership includes inspiring the kind of introspection and reflection that lead to higher levels of consciousness is the subject of her 2004 book, Transcendent Leadership and the Evolution of Consciousness. Maralyn Beck


Maralyn keeps busy in the digital and interactive world as Principal of Digital Communication Strategies LLC, Chief Communications Officer at (a local ABQ StartUp), Founder of New Mexico Interactive Marketing Association (@JoinNMIMA), and Treasurer of the New Mexico chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Maralyn holds a Master's degree in Strategic Public Relations from The George Washington University, and received her undergraduate degree from UNM. Deborah Burns

Luke Nogales

Luke Nogales loves to help innovators reach their potential. Luke is an assistant professor in the Engineering Technology Department at New Mexico State University. He teaches mechanical engineering technology core courses and is developing an innovation and product development curriculum for traditional students as well as for the private sector.

Prior to working at NMSU, Luke worked as an innovator at Procter & Gamble. While working full-time at P&G in Cincinnati, OH, Luke went to Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and received a MS in Product Design and Development. The internationally recognized program, which is taught by engineering and business faculty, strengthened his understanding of how to develop successful value propositions. Luke’s engineering foundation was built at New Mexico State University, where he received a BS with high honors in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Jeff Bethel

Co-founded Aspen Avionics Inc. to design, certify and manufacture the “Evolution Flight Display”.
